Science & the City

Six appointments organized by ICGEB Trieste (6x60 minutes of science) from 8 May to 14 June 2013

Trieste, city of science, opens a new chapter in scientific

dissemination thanks to the initiative of the ICGEB Trieste. Together with the local Rotary Club, the patronage of the Municipality and media partnership of the local newspaper Il Piccolo, ICGEB is bringing science to the city in a series of six public appointments with leading international experts in biomedical research.

Is it possible to regenerate human organs? Are genetically modified organisms harmful to human health? How can tumours be eradicated? Can genetic engineering be used to improve human DNA? What is the future of surgery? How is it possible to distinguish between anecdotes and science in the field of stem cells?

These are a few of the main questions that will be addressed during each 60 minute event taking place over the next few weeks and involving, on each occasion, two experts whose discussion will be moderated by a journalist, to illustrate the state of the art in research and the main issues involved in these topics.

The events of “SCIENCE & THE CITY” take place at the Revoltella Museum in Trieste. All events are conducted in Italian. Admission is free.

These events will be filmed and distributed through the ICGEB podcast programme on iTunes U, thanks also to funding obtained through the Italian Ministry of Instruction, University and Research. Coming soon at:
