The ICGEB is actively engaged in the dissemination of science for the public. Laboratory personnel actively participate in science fairs and events and strongly support local, national and international outreach activities. These initiatives are made possible through funding obtained for the promotion of free Public Engagement events, such as “Trieste Science & the City”, a talk show organised by ICGEB Trieste, held in a theatre in the town centre and broadcast on national radio and television on themes of scientific interest for the general public.

ICGEB participates actively in other initiatives, such as Trieste Next, the national science fair organised in September (since 2012) together with the other major science institutes located in Trieste, which together ensured its selection as the European City of Science for the EuroScience Open Forum ESOF2020.

The ICGEB laboratories in Trieste welcome almost 1000 visitors each year, including school and university groups. Since 2002, lessons in Molecular Medicine have been given in high schools in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Italy, by PhD students from ICGEB Trieste, under a locally funded project. In Trieste, a teaching lab is equipped to accommodate school visits and to facilitate the flow of visitors to the Centre.

ICGEB students, scientists, lab personnel and staff lend themselves to enrich our work through engagement, deepening our contribution to the wider society and aligning our mission to our environment.
